How to write CV lines with numbers that get you calls

Recruiters skim for results. Here is how to turn duties into result lines with numbers.

A Profile That Gets Calls cover
Replace duties with results. A good CV line says what you did, how, and what changed, with a number.
The idea

Duties and results

Most finance CVs describe duties: what the job was supposed to do. Strong CVs describe results: what changed because of you.

The method

The CV line formula

A simple formula makes strong lines.

PartExample
Action verbCut, built, led, raised, closed, launched
What you didthe monthly close
Howby moving accruals before month-end and automating bank reconciliations
Result with a numberfrom 9 to 5 working days
The method

Finding your numbers

Many finance people say “I don't have numbers.” Almost every finance role does; you have to look.

Kind of numberExamples
Money₹ saved, freed, raised, collected, avoided
TimeDays cut from a close, hours saved, faster approvals
AccuracyErrors cut, forecast error, audit findings closed
ScaleSize of budget, team, entities, deals, transactions
Share or rankShare of work you owned; rating in reviews
The method

Lines for deal roles

Deal roles (banking, Big 4 deals, PE, corporate development) need deal lines: the type, size and your role, without names.
